Alejandro Aravena: Elemental (AV Monographs 185) Shop Nu

The awarding of the Pritzker Prize in 2016 to Alejandro Aravena, and his appointment as director of the 15th Venice Architecture Biennial have given the Chilean a prominent presence in the international architectural panorama. AV Monographs 185 covers the activity of the architect inside and outside his studio, Elemental, over the past two decades. The monograph opens with a text by Aravena discussing the themes of the Venetian exhibition, and that are directly related to his work philosophy. Next, a critical essay by Harshim Sarkis – dean of the MIT School of Architecture – establishes relationships between the different production lines of the architect. After this theoretical introduction, the issue features a total of eighteen buildings, proyects, and urban plans organized in three thematic chapters: participatory design, civic service, and sustainable landscape.
